Kalyan Vinnakota was awarded the McKay grant by the UM Frankel Cardiovascular Center for his application titled – “Systems Pharmacology and Rational Design of Therapy for Correcting Metabolic Dysfunction in Heart Failure”. The proposed project will investigate biochemical changes in pathways of energy metabolism in pressure overload induced hypertrophy and heart failure and pharmacologically modulate specific enzymes in those pathways with the goals of testing our understanding of the role of those pathways in heart failure and correcting the observed dysfunction. The McKay grant competition is intended to assist new cardiovascular investigators, within any UM discipline related to cardiovascular disease, to initiate projects that will lead to extramural funding.
