The scientific mission of the VPR is supported by two research cores:

Core 1: Physiome Knowledgebase and Resource Dissemination Core. This core provides services for archiving, annotating, and disseminating models and data within the VPR and the broader scientific community. To provide these services, the core is developing novel big data technology to annotate data and models, merge multiple models together, visualize how model components are connected, and assess the uncertainty in model representations.

Core 2: Animal Phenotyping and Functional Assessment. This core brings together the animal and organ level phenotyping services currently used within individual laboratories at the University of Michigan into a cohesive and easily accessible core service that is used by all  center investigators.
